Throughout the country were about 11,300 injured and about 35,000 houses collapsed. Most property damage were concentrated in Bucharest, where over 33 large buildings and blocks collapsed. In Bulgaria, the earthquake is known as the Svishtov Earthquake. Three blocks of flats in the Bulgarian town of Svishtov (near Zimnicea) collapsed, killing more than 100 people. Among the earthquake victims included a few prominent figures, such as Toma Caragiu and Anatol E. Baconsky. |
